With the arrival of (Roman Rite) Christmas and the coming of Kwanzaa, let us take a small break from the issues of the day and the struggle against central government tyranny to examine the traditions, old and new, which bring people together at this festive (not to say Festivus) time of year.

(Lest we be castigated for ignoring the billion-plus celebrants of Islamic holidays, Eid al-Adha falls in December this year, but being based on a lunar calendar, of course, it doesn’t do so as a rule.  Eid Mubarak anyway!)

Automatic pay raises for Congress are about as blatantly aristocratick as it gets.  Without any accountability to anyone, least of all the peasants who pay the bill, the self-perpetuating class on Capitol Hill gets wealthier and wealthier, regardless of the ups and downs faced by us mere mortals.

Cooling Is Warming    Debt Is Prosperity    Ignorance Is Strength

The exotic or quaint beliefs of various cults and creeds are rightly the private business of their members.  As this writer loves to quote Jefferson, “It matters not to me whether my neighbor believes in twenty gods or no god; it neither picks my pocket, nor breaks my leg.”

When, however, not just unprovable but patently false claims are used precisely to try to pick others’ pockets and break their legs if they do not cooperate, this is fanaticism.  Fanaticism, like any other threat to unalienable rights, must never be tolerated, condoned, or acquiesced to.

The loony ravings of the Associated Press on the alleged urgent need for President Obama to use Inauguration Day itself to impoverish and enslave the people of the United States in the name of the Flying Spaghetti Monster of global warming are a case in point.

As a submitter to Fark summarized the spectacle, President-elect Obama is saying he met with Governor Blagojevich and talked about disposition of his Senate seat, but that he never met with Governor Blagojevich and never talked about disposition of his Senate seat - and Old Media is playing along.

Didn’t all those Clintonistas filling the incoming administration learn this lesson ten years ago, when Matt Drudge changed the world by reporting that Newspeak -er- Newsweek was sitting on the story?

Remember the guy who wouldn’t say anything (or put on silly hats) to get elected?  The guy who tried to remind us what the word “federalism” meant before Hamilton turned it into Newspeak?  The guy who effectively “binned” Michael Moore in 39 seconds?

Yes, that’s right, good old Fred Thompson has a holiday message for families worried by all the gloomy economic news.  This is a thinker and a speaker who would have been right at home in the company of the authors of “Poor Richard’s Almanack” and “Common Sense“.

There may be readers who ask, “What’s the connection between this ‘anti-federalist’ stuff and all the ranting against Obama and the Democrats?”

Firstly, we, like the Anti-Federalists, oppose institutionalized unjust power, and such power in the United States today is held overwhelmingly by self-identified Democrats, in big media, finance, academia, and of course government.  In the 1880’s, we would have been ranting against Republicans.

More directly and specifically, though, the connection is in the exact types of proposals and ideas propounded by the President-elect, his staff and allies, and his supporters.  When they resonate so harmoniously with those of the Philadelphia convention that produced the current Constitution, the connection and the relevance is clear.

Barney and friends Fannie and Freddie

Belatedly listening more to their constituents than to Lame Dick Cheney, Senate Republicans have killed a Detroit bailout plan that would have essentially put the membership of the UAW directly onto the government payroll for life, at about double market rates for actual labor in the US.

Good news?  Not to Massachusetts Congressman Barney Frank, who still thinks giving away houses to buy votes was a fine idea.  He, not surprisingly, is adamant that the feather-beds of big-union members be preserved at the expense of everybody who doesn’t have back-door connections.

Clearly, Rod Blagojevich’s real crime was putting in plain English what his party usually says in Newspeak: “If they ain’t giving me something, fuck ‘em.”

The court jesters of the former Mainstream Media are up to their tired old tricks as the Fall of the House of Blagojevich unfolds.  Joining Reverend (”I sat in his pews for 20 years and never heard a word he said”) Wright, ghost writer cum Obi Wan Bill Ayers, and, of course, lamented but racist Grandma under the metaphorical bus is now the Rod being “thrown” by the Chicago Machine.
